Before transferring to Drexel in fall 2016, I spent my freshman year at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY. After the first few weeks, part of me knew I needed to transfer. I spent months looking up new schools to visit and even considered changing my major. I had no idea what I wanted to do. Eventually, after a lot of research and decision making, I made the impulsive decision to apply to Drexel, and only Drexel. Looking back, this was not my smartest move considering I did not have a backup school if I didn’t get in. However, whenever I think about the decision I made to transfer, I smile knowing it was one of the best decisions of my life.
As a new transfer student during Welcome Week, I was ready to become involved in as much as possible because I didn’t know anybody and was very unfamiliar with the city of Philadelphia. After my first month at Drexel, I decided to join Greek Life and the rest is history. Joining Greek Life opened the door to so many opportunities for me on and off campus. I have attended and helped with numerous community service and fundraising events, networked and made so many connections through my sisters, and most importantly I’ve been surrounded by women that have the same values as me and support me in everything I do.
Whenever I think about the decision I made to transfer, I smile knowing it was one of the best decisions of my life.
Transferring to Drexel has also given me so many more opportunities to study abroad. This past March I visited Reykjavík, Iceland, for a week and attended their Design March and Reykjavík Fashion Festival! It was my first time being out of the country and it was an experience I’ll never forget. The country’s natural wonders were beautiful and it was so exciting seeing another country’s fashion scene up close and personal. Drexel’s Study Abroad program has also made it possible for me to study abroad for six months in Melbourne, Australia. I am really looking forward to it and excited because some of my sorority sisters will also be in Australia at the same time as me!
I knew that coming to Drexel would be a big step for me because I grew up in such a small town. However, I had no idea one school could completely change my life. Drexel has given me the opportunities to do what I love and see the world through different perspectives. It has given me a better work ethic and understanding of the professional world. Even though my daily schedule feels hectic and exhausting sometimes, I wouldn’t have it any other way.
